EARLY YEARS, STUDIES:

Zachary David Alexander Efron was born on October 18, 1987 in the city of San Luis Obispo, California, but soon after, the family moved to the city of Arroyo Grande. His father, David, is an engineer and his mother, Starla Baskett, is a secretary at the same company where his father works. He has a younger brother, Dylan. He also has Jewish blood on his father’s side, but he does not practice the religion. He excelled in almost everything at school.

HIS ACTING CAREER

FIRST WING TESTS:

Zac was steered towards acting by his father and performed in school plays from the age of 11. He starred in The Great American MelodramaVaudeville, and sang mainly solo songs in it. Also played GypsyPeter PanOr The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow UpLittle Shop of HorrorsThe Music Man also in pieces titled A former drama teacher recommended her to an agent in Los Angeles, who offered her a contract with Creative Artists Agency. The contract was signed and Zac’s career started. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles. In 2006, he graduated from Arroyo Grande High School and was admitted to the University of Southern California, but postponed due to his film career. In 2001, he successfully completed a solo singing course at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, California.

FIRST FEATURED ROLE: MIRACLE RUN

His film career started in 2002. He first appeared in the series Firefly, then he got an episodic role in  ER and The Guardian. In 2003, he starred in the Lifetime original movie Miracle Run, playing autistic Steven Morgan. With this performance, he was nominated for the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Movie, Mini-series or Special – Supporting Young Actor. In 2004, he was cast in Warner Brothers’ inaugural series Summerlandinto. Unfortunately, the series did not have a long life, as WB took it off the screen a year later. In 2005, he got the role of Patrick McCardle in the drama The Derby Stallion,  and in 2006 he guest-starred in NCIS.

THE BIG BREAK: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

In 2006, Zac was cast as Troy Bolton in the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical. With this, he stole into the hearts of millions and, in addition to world fame, can claim the title of teenage girls’ idol. This year, he won the Teen Choice Award: Choice Breakout Star and the Teen Choice Award: Choice Chemistry for High School Musical with Vanessa Hudgens. The film was so successful around the world that the soundtracks “Get’cha Head in the Game” and “Breaking Free” entered the Billboard Top 100. In 2007, High School Musical 2. / Love Notes 2 was completed.  In 2008, the third and final part of the trilogy, High School Musical 3 – Graduates, was presented in a cinema set. Thanks to the film, he and Vanessa Hudgens were a couple in real life until December 2010.

FILMS, AWARDS AND NOMINATIONS:

In 2007, he got the role of Link Larkin in the remake of the movie Hairspray, where John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nikki Blonsky and Brittany Snow were his  partnersThis year Zac collected many awards: Kids’ Choice Award: Best Male Actor, Teen Choice Award: Choice Male Hottie, Hollywood Film Award: Ensemble of the Year for Hairspray and the Young Hollywood Award: One to Watch in Hairspray. He was also featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and together with Queen Latifah was awarded the winner of the 2007 Teen Choice Award for “Favorite Movie”. At the end of the year in Sydney, he co-hosted the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards with The Veronicas. Me and Orson Welles, adapted from Robert Kaplow’s novel, was published in 2008  / The drama Me and Orson Welles co-starred Claire Danes. In 2009, the drama was followed by the comedy 17 Again, in which he played Mike O’Donnell, played by a young Matthew Perry. This year he hosted Saturday Night Live and starred in HBO’s self-produced series Entourage where he played himself.

OTHER ROLES:

In 2010, he returned to the cinema screen with a drama, Charlie St. Cloud / The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. In 2011, she came second on People magazine’s list of the most beautiful people. This year, he got a role in Garry Marshall’s film New Year’s Eve / Szilveszter něl, where he could play again with Michelle Pfeiffer. In 2012, he lent his voice to Teg Wiggins in the animated tale The Lorax. She got a leading role in the film based on the novel The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks, with Taylor Schilling as her partner. He starred alongside Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey in  The Paperboy. The main role is played by At Any Pricein the film, where he plays the son of Dennis Quaid. In 2014, we saw Imogen Poots in That Awkward Moment and Neighbors alongside Seth Rogen and Dave Franco. In 2015, we saw him in the role of Cole Carter in We Are Your Friends. At the beginning of 2016, we saw him in the movie Dirty Grandpa / Nagyfater elszabadul, then came the movies Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising / Bad neighborhood 2 and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates / Mike and Dave is looking for a girl for a wedding.

HUGO BOSS CAMPAIGN:

In 2016, he became the ambassador of the Hugo Boss Hugo Man fragrance and the face of its 2017 campaign.

CURRENT ROLES, JOBS:

In 2017, he played the role of Matt Brody in the Baywatch reboot. According to social media, he got together with his colleague Alexandra Daddario during the filming. Also in 2017, he played Phillip Carlyle in the film The Greatest Showman. Also this year, he appeared in the film The Disaster Artist, directed by James Franco. In 2019, he had two upcoming projects. The first is  The Beach Bum, in which Flicker and  Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile movie, in which he played the famous serial killer Ted Bundy. During the filming, the news broke again that he had warmed up again with his partner Lily Collins. None of the actors have confirmed the rumors yet.

In 2020, he voices Fred Jones in the 3D animated film Scoob, based on the Scooby-Doo franchise. In 2020, he launched his own reality show Down to Earth with Zac Efron, which was filmed in Papua New Guinea in 2019. The essence of the show is that Zac is left alone in a jungle for 21 days: he only gets a piece of equipment and a tour guide by his side. He almost died of a bacterial infection during filming. In 2020,  Scooby! he lent the voice of Fred Jones in the animated film. In 2021, he starred as Jessica Alba’s husband in the short film Dubai Presents A Five-Star Mission. In 2022, he appears as a gold digger in the film Gold. Also this year, Andy McGee plays him in the movie Firestarter.
