Singing career
(2011 -)
2010: Pre-debut
In November 2010, DR Music Entertainment announced their new eight-member girl group RaiNa (Riko, T-ae, Xia, Saem, Joy, Lucy (Jooyi) and Sarah). A few months before the debut, Sarah left and was replaced by Chinese trainee Yijo; and in the pre-debut period, the names of Park Sori and Data Daranchas were mentioned as possible members, but their debut with the team never happened in the end.
2011-2012: The debut
RaiNa finally debuted her first digital single, Teddy Riley, The First Expansion In Asia, on April 6th, 2011. The team consisted of eight members: Riko, Saem, Xia, Jooyi, Di, Joy, T-ae and Yijo, although Yijo is not on the disc, and he left shortly after. The album was promoted with the song Dr Feel Good, but the audience found the music video, choreography and outfits too provocative, so minor changes had to be made.
After the promotion, their second digital single, Masquerade, was released almost immediately on June 13, and around this time they recorded their American debut, which ultimately did not materialize.
The girls’ first EP was released on November 17, 2011, entitled Time To Rock Da Show, which was promoted by their song Pop Pop Pop, the music video for which was released four days later. In the meantime, something unfortunate happened, because Thailand was hit by a flood, so Joy traveled home to her parents. The label announced the inactivation of Joy, but this ultimately led to her leaving RaiNa.
On May 30, 2012, they returned with the song “Killer” as part of the Dream Music Concert. The girls’ third digital single titled Style was finally released on September 21. In the promotions – due to personal reasons – Jooyi did not stay with the team, but he did not quit.
2013-2014: The first studio album
Their first studio album, Just Go (Goodbye’s The New Hello), was released on March 8th, and a short film was made for the album’s eponymous song, and they promised their American debut in the summer of 2013. There was even an American reality show called Road To Fame, but the American debut was missed. The fans couldn’t be sad, because their special single titled Up was released on the fifth of July. As with the previous promotions, Riko was missing, as she was concentrating on her studies. He was present as a trainee member for a long time, but eventually it turned out that he was no longer a member of the team.
In May 2014, the team signed a contract with a Spanish publisher, Ingenio Media, and they promised a return by July, but in the end nothing came of it. In the fall of this year, Saem left and was replaced by Sharon Park (who only stayed with the team until April 2015). In January 2015, Jooyi also left RaNia; the vacant place was given to Hyeme.
