Personal Letters – Definition, Kinds, Characteristics, Methods, Parts, Examples: Is a letter made by someone whose contents involve personal interests. Personal letters are also known as private letters. People write personal letters because of their daily interactions. From that association, an idea emerged which prompted him to write a personal letter.
Understanding Personal Letters
A personal letter is a type of letter that contains personal needs which are usually written personally and addressed to others using non-standard language.
In general, personal letters do not have binding regulations. Personal letters can be written according to the tastes of each author. even so, in ethics & the use of polite language, of course, it must still be considered according to the background and to whom the letter will be addressed.
Types of Personal Letters
Based on the content and nature, personal letters can be divided into two types, namely:
1. Personal letters whose contents are family in nature, for example, letters of introduction, letters between relatives, letters to friends, letters to parents and
2. A personal letter whose contents are semi-official or have something to do with work, for example a job application letter, a letter of absence from work, a letter of absence from school, a leave of absence
Personal Letter Characteristics
Personal letters have the following characteristics:
1. Don’t have letterhead
2. Don’t have a letter number
3. The opening and closing greetings are very diverse and more casual, non-formal
4. In the use of free language (not standard) according to the author’s wishes

How to Write a Personal Letter
In order to be able to write a personal letter properly and correctly, we must use some guidelines for writing a personal letter, such as the following:
1. Do not use copy
2. Writing the date of the letter using the name of the place or
3. Do not use a letter number
4. Use the closing greeting “Sincerely,”.
5. Do not use a copy.
6. Can be written on postcards, postcards or letters

2. Greetings
A greeting is greeting someone before writing a letter. You can use a sentence like in the example above ( Greetings of friendship) or with other greetings such as:
Assalamualaikum
sweet regards
Best wishes
and so on.
3. Opening Paragraph
The opening paragraph can be a question about news, health, circumstances or just small talk.
For example:
“Hello Dian, how are you? I hope that you are doing well! Thank God because I’m here too healthy and fine”
4. Content Paragraph
This paragraph contains the essence or purpose of the letter. even though what you write is a personal letter, you still have to write this section clearly and easy to understand. This is so that your message can be conveyed properly too:
“hi, I’m, next year I want to go to my grandmother’s house in Bandar Lampung. So I can stop by at your house. Can I play at your house? Of course, you can, because I really miss you. Watch out, if you can’t! Don’t be mad, Ian, I’m just kidding. Ian, how about our memorable photos, are they still saved or not? Because I lost mine, I don’t know where.”
5. Closing Paragraph
The closing paragraph is used to end the body of the letter. Usually, this paragraph contains apologies, excuses, hopes and so on.
