Perrie Edwards CAREER
X-FACTOR (2011)
In 2011, he applied to the X-Factor at the suggestion of his mother. Although he impressed the mentors at the audition in Glasgow, he failed the first challenge of the boot camp as a solo performer. However, the mentors gave her the opportunity to continue marching as a member of a 4-member girl group with a formation called Faux Paus. In this band, he met Jesy Nelson, who also joined Faux Paus. The formation was not convincing in the later stages of the boot camp: the mentors did not allow the 4 girls to enter the mentors’ house. The mentors, on the other hand, thought that 2 each of the Orion and Faux Paus gang members had enough potential to continue marching as a team, so Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock were brought together. Originally called Rhythmix, Tulisa Contostavlos allowed the group from the house of Mentors to live broadcasts. At the end of October 2011, it was announced that they would change their name, because the name Rhythmix has been used by a charity organization in Brighton since 1999. Thus, the band continued to march in live broadcasts under the name Little Mix. Little Mix won the 8th series of The X Factor on 11 December 2011, making them the most successful group in the history of the show.
LITTLE MIX: DNA (2011-2012)
Immediately after the show, their cover version of Cannonball was released, the original artist of which was Damien Rice. Although the song opened at the top of the UK Official Charts, it sold “only” 210,000 copies in its first week. Not since 2005 has an X Factor winner sold so few singles in one week. Little Mix’s second single from their debut album, Wings, was first heard on the radio on 2 July 2012, was officially released on 26 August, and immediately opened at the top of the UK charts. The song, inspired by Beyoncé and Michael Jackson, was produced by TMS, and the girls themselves took part in writing the lyrics. Wings quickly won the hearts of critics and fans, most media outlets commented positively on the composition. The girls released their song DNA in November 2012, with which they also performed in the 9th series of the British X Factor. It debuted at number 3 on the official British charts.
Their first LP, entitled DNA, was released in Great Britain on November 19, 2012, and debuted at number 3 on the official British album sales chart. The girls themselves took an active part in writing the songs on the disc, working with producers such as TMS or Xenomania, and T-Boz, the legendary singer of TLC, collaborated in the song Red Planet. Two more singles were released from the album: Change Your Life became a top 20 hit in January 2013, followed by How Ya Doin’?, which was slightly reworked compared to the original album version, with the help of famous American rapper Missy Elliot.
The girls embarked on a 23-stop UK tour in January 2013. Little Mix successfully conquered one of the biggest music markets in the world – in the United States, their album DNA opened at number 4 on the Billboard Top 200 list – and with this they broke the record of the Spice Girls: until now, a British girl group has never managed to debut their debut album in such a high place in America. In addition to working in the studio, the girls were also busy with other things: on August 31, 2012, their first biographical book titled Ready to Fly was published by HarperCollins. And in May 2012, they signed a contract with the game publisher Vivid Imaginations and Bravado, which sells products related to musicians, to put dolls, puzzles, accessories and other toys on store shelves. In June 2012, they participated in the M&M’s campaign,
SALUTE (2013-2014)
On September 27, 2013, the girl band returned with a new song called Move. The song achieved great positions on the charts, debuting immediately at number 3 on the UK Singles chart. We didn’t have to wait long for the video clip either, it was already released on October 25. The single is officially available from November 3. The second LP, Salute, was released on November 8, 2013 worldwide, with a total of 12 songs. The album will be available in America from February 2014, but the album was once again successful on the charts. The second single from Salute is Little Me, available for purchase from 30 December 2013.
At the beginning of 2014, the girls visited Liberia, where they spent some time with children in need. For charity, they also covered an 80s hit song, Word Up!, which was officially released in February. Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights tour kicked off on February 9, where the girls were the opening act. The tour included a total of 41 shows and ended on May 17 in Mexico.
Not only a Demis tour was planned for the girls this year, but also their second major tour, Salute. The tour began on May 16 in Birmingham and continued in England until July 27. The girl band performed at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball at the end of June. However, the girls had to cancel Salute’s second North American tour, because then their third studio album would not be ready in time. The work on the third LP started back in June, and since then there has been a small break due to the tour, but the girls are working on the record. Originally, the British singer Cher Lloyd would have assisted on the record, but this has not been confirmed. In October, the girls announced that the new album is expected in 2015, and that Jessie J and Jenn Gylnne will also be involved.
GET WEIRD (2015-2016)
In January 2015, they announced the release of their first perfume collection, Gold Magic. The first song of their third album, Black Magic, was released on July 11. The song debuted at number one on the British and Irish iTunes and also reached a high position on the rag lists. On July 15, it was revealed that the name of the third album will be Get Weird and it will be officially available from November 6. On August 16, they performed at the Teen Choice Awards and on September 9 at America’s Got Talent. The album’s second single Love Me Like You was released on September 25.
Get Weird was released worldwide on 6 November and debuted at number two in the UK ahead of the previous two albums. It also debuted at number two in Australia and number one in Ireland. On the Billboard 200 list, however, it was only 13th. Just six weeks after its release, it was already among the most successful albums of 2015. On December 5, after their performance at the Jingle Bell Ball, they announced that the next single from the album would be Secret Love Song with Jason Derulo, and soon after they started filming the video. On February 24, 2016, they performed at the Brit Awards and were nominated for two awards.
On March 13, the Get Weird Tour kicked off in Cardiff. It later became the UK’s highest-selling tour of 2016, selling over 300,000 tickets in the UK alone. On April 15, Get Weird’s fourth single Hair was released in a new version, featuring Jamaican rapper Sean Paul. On September 22, Ariana Grande announced that the girls will be one of her supporting acts on the North American stops of her Dangerous Woman tour, which starts in February 2017.
GLORY DAYS (2016-2018)
On October 16, the first single of their fourth studio album, Shout Out To My Ex, debuted in the live show of the British X-Factor. On October 21, the music video for the song, shot in Spain, was released. The single went to the top of the UK chart, selling 95,000 in a couple of days and holding the position for three weeks. On October 14, they announced that they will go on tour again next year. Glory Days was released on 18 November and went to number one in the UK, becoming their highest charting album. It sold 96,000 copies in its first week, making it the biggest first-week album by a British girl group since the Spice Girls’ album in 1997 and the best-selling album by any girl group since Destiny’s Child’s Survivor in 2001. On December 12, the second single, Touch, was released.
At the 2017 Brit Awards, the girls were nominated for three awards, Best British Band, Best British Single (Shout Out To My Ex) and Best British Video (Hair). The Dangerous Woman Tour kicked off in Phoenix on February 3rd, with the band supporting Ariana Grande on their US stops, including venues such as Madison Square Garden. The Brit Awards took place on February 22, where the girls opened the night with their hit Shout Out To My Ex, and then they also won one of the three nominations for an award, also with this song. On March 3, the third single of Glory Days, No More Sad Songs, was released, but not the original version, but a reworking, which was made with the participation of Machine Gun Kelly.
On May 21, The Glory Days Tour kicked off in Birkenhead, England. During the tour, they visit Europe and Australia. On May 26, Power was released as the album’s fourth single, again in a revised version, with the addition of Stormzy. On August 18, they released a remix version of Reggaeton Lento together with CNCO, a Latin American boy band. The song was originally released by the boys in Spanish, and the remix version was released in English-Spanish. On November 24, the Platinum Edition version of their last year’s Glory Days album was released, which includes three new songs, If I Get My Way, Is Your Love Enough? and Dear Lover.
LM5 (2018-2019)
In 2018, they teamed up with Cheat Codes for a joint song, which was released under the title Only You on June 22. On October 12, their joint composition with Nicki Minaj, Woman Like Me, was released, which became the first single from their fifth album. The song made its TV debut on X-Factor UK on October 28 without the rapper, and was also performed at the MTV EMAs this time with Nicki. On November 16, LM5 was officially released, which contains a total of 14 songs. It could not exceed the success of their previous album, as it only reached the 3rd place in the UK. After the album’s release, it was announced that the girls had switched labels after their five-disc contract with Syco Music expired. In the future, they will publish their works under the care of RCA UK and Columbia Records. Several promotional songs were released from the album, the first being Joan Of Arc, followed by Told You So and The Cure. The band also released videos for two tracks, More Than Words and Strip.
In January 2019, it was announced that the album’s official second single would be Think About Us, but once again the girls asked for the participation of a rapper, that of Ty Dolla Sign. At the 2019 Brit Awards, they were nominated for two awards, of which they won one with their song Woman Like Me, which they also performed at the award ceremony with the British rapper Ms Banks.
CONFETTI AND OTHER PROJECTS (2019-2020)
The girls quickly closed the LM5 era and announced at the beginning of 2019 that they were working on their sixth studio album. Finally, in May they announced their latest single, Bounce Back, which was released on June 14. In September, they went on tour as part of LM5: The Tour. The last concert took place on 22 November in London after canceling December dates in Australia and New Zealand to work on their new album. Also on this day, their new Christmas song, One I’ve Been Missing, was released.
The first single of their 6th studio album, Break Up Song, was released on March 27, 2020. It was also their first song released under their new label, RCA. The accompanying video as well as most of the promo were delayed due to the coronavirus situation, however, the girls did not let their fans down and filmed a video for it themselves at home. The second single, Holiday, was released on July 24. The summer hit also performed well on the charts. On August 21, after a long time, they took the stage again – although this time without an audience. The band performed at Knebworth House as part of Meerkat Music’s Uncancelled show. They performed several of their hits, including Break Up Song and Holiday, which were performed live for the first time, and fans were able to watch the entire event live.
In September, they announced their own talent show, Little Mix: The Search, which hit the screens on September 26. Also this month, they confirmed that their new album, Confetti, will hit store shelves on November 6. At the same time, the UK tour dates of the Confetti Tour were also announced, which will start in April 2021. Two promotional songs from their new album were released in October, Not A Pop Song on the 9th and Happiness on the 16th. The album’s third single, Sweet Melody, is out on October 23. The song reached number 1 in the UK three months after its release.
Confetti was released on time, on November 6th. The disc competed with Kylie Minogue’s Disco for the UK No. 1 spot, but the band fell short of the singer and only debuted at No. 2. On November 8, Perrie, Jade and Leigh-Anne hosted the 2020 MTV EMAs and performed Sweet Melody. Jesy did not appear at the event citing illness, and on November 17, the situation escalated further, and their manager announced that he would stay away from the band’s public performances for an indefinite period of time. The LM5 Tour tour film debuted in some cinemas on November 21 and 22, but the premiere was postponed in many places due to the epidemic. On November 25, they released the song No Time For Tears together with British DJ Nathan Dawe. On December 14, the girls announced in an official announcement,
Even though the girls said they would release new music in the spring of 2021, it didn’t turn out that way. In April, it was announced that their next single would be the title track of their sixth studio album, Confetti, which was released on the last day of the month. However, the song underwent a slight revision, among other things, the parts of Jesy, who left the group, were removed and another girl sang it. In addition, the American rapper Saweetie also contributes to the song. On May 20, their joint collaboration with Galantis and David Guetta, Heartbreak Anthem, was released. On July 16, it was announced that their wax figures will be placed in London’s Madame Tussauds on the occasion of the team’s 10th anniversary. The statues were unveiled on July 28, and the girls were modeled after the music video for Bounce Back.
On July 23, their joint song with Anne-Marie, Kiss My (Uh Oh), was released together with the accompanying video. Little Mix made history again this month as they became the first girl group to spend a combined 100 weeks in the UK Top 10 after Heartbreak Anthem slipped to No.7 10 weeks after its release.
