Ashley Nicolette was born Frangipane on Thursday, September 29, 1994 at 9:26 a.m. in Edison, New Jersey. His mother, Nicole Frangipane, works as a security guard at a hospital; her father is Chris Frangipane, a car dealer. Halsey is biracial—her mother is white and her father is African American; during a DNA test carried out in 2020, it was revealed that Turkish, Nigerian, Senegalese, Irish, Italian and, to a lesser extent, Hungarian blood runs through his veins.

He has two younger brothers, Sevian (he is the older one) and Dante. They moved around a lot in her youth, as her parents changed jobs many times in order to make ends meet – so by the time Halsey was 10 years old, she had already attended six schools. She was a cheerleader in her schools and loved to dance. At the age of 14, he switched to acoustic guitar, having previously played the cello, viola and violin. At the age of 16, he was diagnosed with bipolar personality disorder (his mother also suffers from this mental problem) after attempting suicide due to bullying at school; as a result, he was subjected to 17 days of hospital treatment, about which he stated as follows:

❝ I tried to kill myself. I was a teenager, I didn’t even know what I was doing. At the age of sixteen, I ended up in a ward full of children. It was scary. I was surrounded by nine-year-olds who were being treated for trying to kill themselves.

He wrote his first solo song at the age of 15, not yet under his stage name. He uploaded the song shortly after writing it to his YouTube channel at the time, where he had previously uploaded videos, including a cover of Taylor Swift‘s “I Know You Were Trouble” and the “Haylor Song”, which was about the relationship between Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.

At the age of 18, after graduating from Warren Hills Regional High School and passing his high school diploma, he enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design, but due to their financial situation at the time, they could not have allowed him to attend, so he decided to he continued his studies at a nearby community college but dropped out soon after – as a result of which his parents kicked him out of the house. After the shock caused by moving away from home, Ashley lived together with a couple of friends in the basement of a drug club that her ex-partner met in Manhattan, and if not here, then she slept in a homeless shelter in New York state. At this time, she even thought about earning her living as a prostitute.

❝ I remember one time I only had $9 in my bank account. I bought a four pack of Red Bull and drank it all the time to keep me up overnight. It was better than fearing danger and sleeping in a place where I could be raped or kidnapped.

After long months on the streets, he started to get back on his feet and moved out of town with his grandmother, albeit only for a short time. During his absence, he wrote poems and songs, and set the latter to music. Not long after, one of his friends invited him to a party, where he initially did not want to go, but after a short period of persuasion, he agreed. At the party, she met a producer, with whom they agreed that if the girl wrote a song with her participation, there was a high chance that it would be released.

Ashley did so – the result of this meeting was the girl’s first serious, official song, Ghost, which, after being accepted by the producer and his bosses, could be published on SoundCloud. The song attracted a huge audience in a short time, which was noticed by five different record labels, and all of them wanted to sign the young talent. Ashley ended up signing with Astralwerks Records (which took place on top of the Empire State Building), saying, “I felt like they gave me a lot more artistic freedom and space than I would have done with another label.”

Before his debut, he gave acoustic concerts on the stages of nightclubs and bars, using several stage names. The most popular of these, and also the most used, was Halsey, who became hers at the age of 17, after an Ed Sheeran concert. After the show, she got on the train for an older man and followed him all the way to Halsey Street – the great atmosphere and the name of the place inspired her to write lyrics and create music. According to him, a new person was then born, and Halsey became a “manifestation of the exaggerated parts of her personality,” a sort of alter ego. He told about all this at one of the most important concerts of his life in Madison Square Garden.

While working on her debut EP, Halsey toured the country with the band The Kooks in 2014. At the same time, he got in touch with the Norwegian producer Lido, with whom they had an on-the-fly relationship for a long time; they broke up and got back together several times. She has maintained a good relationship with the man since then, and nothing shows this better than the fact that he contributed to all of the singer’s subsequent albums.

Towards the end of the year, precisely on October 27, 2014, the singer’s debut CD, called Room 93, was released. christened, and which included a total of five songs – including the one that previously gained him worldwide popularity. Although the album had a low start on the Billboard 200 list, it opened in third place on the Top Heatseekers chart. He performed the first written songs of his record and upcoming album not long after at South By Southwest in 2015; this small and short-lived series of appearances made him one of the most tweeted about up-and-coming celebrities, increasing his popularity.

After that, in March he joined the band Young Rising Sons as part of a joint tour, and then he had the opportunity to open for Imagine DragonsDuring the North American performances of his tour called “Smoke + Mirrors Tour”. (This means a lot to the singer to this day, among other reasons, because after she got out of the hospital after her suicide attempt, it was his songs that made her realize her love for music. Since then, her commitment is the only thing that keeps her from taking her own life.)

She wrote and edited all of her debut songs based on a concept, but it is a fact and true that all the tracks on the disc are in some way connected to the singer’s close and less close friends, her previous loves and the messy figures she met during her homelessness, as well as the events she experienced on their side, to their memories.

In terms of video clips, each of them contains a reference to the girl’s past, passions, and trauma, in addition to this, keen-eyed fans could also spot references to the mood, content, and story of the upcoming album. True, these were only speculations among his fans at the time. Although according to the original plan, each song on the record would have received a short film, moving the story forward, the work on them suddenly stopped after two, and so only the host, as well as Hurricane, who started the story, have this. Two of her other songs, Trouble and Empty Gold, only made it to the trailer – they can still be viewed on the singer’s official channel.

While finalizing her first studio album, Halsey became pregnant by her then-boyfriend, Lido, but before the official Vevo LIFT performance to present the LP, it was revealed that she had lost the fetus growing under her heart. The girl insisted that the concert be canceled because she felt that she would not be able to last the event that lasted up to 2 hours, but the directors of the show did not allow her to do so. Finally, he took the stage as if nothing had happened, and months later he spoke for the first time about the incident to a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine:

❝ This was the angriest concert of my life. That’s when the moment came when I felt like I wasn’t human anymore. […] I wanted to be a mother. I wanted that more than being a pop star. I have never wanted anything in the world so much.

Halsey’s debut studio album, Badlands, was officially released on August 28, 2015, in stores and on the platforms of streaming services, in two formats: the standard version contains five fewer songs than the deluxe edition, which includes, among other things, hugely popular tracks. Although the singer performed many songs known from the album at her previous concerts, most of the fans were still very happy to receive the official audio materials. Halsey developed her work around a fictional dystopian society called The Badlands, which represents her mental state at the time.

He wrote all his songs based on personal experience and also smuggled concepts inspired by post-apocalyptic movies like The Fifth Element(Fifth Element). The basic concept popped into his head during a flight after they passed over Las Vegas. In her mind, the center of society is surrounded by miles of desert wasteland, keeping the people there captive – this is the most significant metaphor for the singer’s mental state. The creation of the disk provided an escape route from his painful, long and, for him, endless struggle, and in order for this to be realized sooner, he wanted to defeat his demons with hopeful optimism and by putting his poisonous thoughts into song.

Many producers worked together on the record, but perhaps the most important of them is Lido , who among other things helped write and produce the Castle and Drive tracks, and also contributed musically to the album, and there are hardly any of the sixteen songs that are not connected to some kind of in the form of his name. Musically, the album is mainly electropop, dark pop, alternative pop and synthpop, but there are also hints of industrial style. First, she shot a second music video for her worldwide hit song, Ghost, which was shot in Tokyo and Los Angeles – the singer was unable to attend the filming location in Japan due to her schedule.

The second time is New American. he shot for the song on the island of Hawaii with local residents, and although he doesn’t really consider the song his favorite anymore, according to him, perhaps its video clip best represents what he wanted to convey to his audience with the album. Colors followed for the third time, which was filmed in the murderous house known from American Horror Story, and in which the former star of Teen Wolf, Tyler Posey, plays one of the main roles. The last one was Castle, for which a short film was shot as the soundtrack to The Huntsman: Winter’s War. In doing so, Halsey was able to use original props from the film.

The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 115,000 copies sold in the States, of which 97,000 are considered album-equivalent units. It became a hit in several countries, including New Zealand, Australia and Canada, all of which debuted in the top three. The tour to promote the record started on September 30, 2015 in San Diego, California, and ended in Singapore nearly a year later on September 18, in addition to The Weeknd He also performed his songs as an opening act on “The Madness: Fall Tour”. Badlands was certified double platinum by the RIAA for one million units sold in the US; it received the same rating (only once) in Canada and Norway. All four promotional singles have gone platinum, as well as Gasoline, which was only available on the extended version, also reached the certification, and is also the album’s third most streamed song on Spotify.

Halsey contributed to one of the songs of Justin Bieber‘s fourth album, The Feeling. The track was not officially released, and it still reached the top forty on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also certified gold and silver.

In February 2016, she was one of the four female performers who appeared as a partner in a special campaign of the MAC cosmetics company, Future Forward: she released a silver-blue lipstick named after herself under their name. The vice president of the company put it this way: “It’s a good feeling to support artists who are making their way, but are not necessarily among the biggest, so we can help them in advance.” Tokyo Narita (Freestyle) was released in May, Supported by Lido. In July, he was one of 27 artists to lend his voice to the charity song Hands, a tribute to those killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting.

On July 29, the song ” Closer ” by the singer and The Chainsmokers was released, on which Halsey also worked as a co-lyricist. The song became a huge success for the two artists worldwide, breaking numerous viewing and listening records (12 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100; dominated the charts in 12 countries; sold more than 15 million units worldwide and became one of the most streamed song on Spotify). Billboard highlighted Halsey’s solo part of the track, which earned her a Grammy nomination for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.”

Following the release and success of Badlands, Halsey announced that she had begun work on her second album, which took three years to complete. After his concert at Madison Square Garden, he played a short trailer, which, although it didn’t reveal much, revealed one of the symbols of the record, the bee, and then the caption “You can find me in the kingdom” appeared, which is a reference to the album’s title.

In January 2017, he released Not Afraid Anymore. number, which is Fifty Shades Darker( Fifty Shades of Darker) official soundtrack. The song was inspired by the relationship between two women, the singer wrote and shaped the music based on a lesbian couple. In March, the singer mobilized her fans: she left envelopes with small plastic weapons all over the world – each of them revealed a part of the cover image cut into 9 parts, as well as a reference to the release of the first single.

On April 4, the long-awaited song Now Or Never was released and the related music video, and along with its debut, pre-orders for the album also began. On the 28th of the month, an interactive game started again: this time, the artist’s team left newspapers on the doorsteps of students all over America, containing articles, interesting facts, and inspiration regarding the album; and in one, the song list was hidden, which Halsey also posted on her social media that day.

The second single, Eyes Closed, debuted on May 4, followed by the third and final single, Strangers, a lesbian love song in collaboration with Lauren Jauregui, on the 26th. June 2 and on, the entire album was released to the world, and it features contributions from artists such as Quavo, Jauregui, Cashmere Cat, Stefflon Don and Big Sean.

Halsey’s main inspiration is William Shakespeare’s love drama, Romeo and Juliet. Based on the work, he created the two main characters of the story, Luna from the Aureum house (she replaces Romeo – played by Halsey), and the child of the Angelus house, Solis (the character representing Juliet, personified by Don Lee ). Based on the play, the two houses are enemies of each other, and although they apparently live in peace, it ends in bloodshed – and in the meantime, the two young people find each other.

The story follows their love, from meeting to getting over each other, and at the end of the journey we can meet Luna’s former love, Rosa, whom Jaureguiplays – so Halsey’s bisexuality became one of the most important aspects of the disc. The video clips present the events in an artistic form, but the order of their debut does not match the order of the story. According to the correct chronology, Strangers starts the threads after Luna and Rosa part ways during a boxing match between houses, and then the main character meets Solis. Then comes Now Or Never, later the sad love ballad Sorry, followed by Bad At Love, which is about complete oblivion, and then Alone, which shows that Luna has moved on from her old love.

The album opened at number two on Billboards and number one on iTunes and the Canadian Albums Chart. In the first week, the album sold 106,000 copies, of which 76,000 can be considered as an album-equivalent unit. She was the first female performer of the year to open so high on the BB chart. The critics spoke highly of the disc, highlighted the singer’s special vocal abilities and gave special praise to the concept. Some called it one of the best of the year.

Like his debut album, it was also certified platinum by the RIAA, as were 3 singles: Now Or Never twice, Bad At Love four times, Alone and won the degree in one go. To promote the album, he left Connecticut on his birthday, September 29th, and returned home from Berlin a year later, on September 26th, after completing the album’s self-titled world tour. During this time, Bad At Love became his most popular song to date, selling over 300,000 copies in the States.

In mid-2017, he collaborated with the famous American band Thirty Seconds to Mars on their album America: Love Is Madness. the singer added her name and voice to the song. In December, she and her then-boyfriend released their joint song, Him & I , which became an integral part of mainstream media, was certified double platinum by the RIAA, and topped the charts for weeks. On January 13, 2018, he appeared for the first time on Saturday Night Live as a performer: at that time he performed two of his songs, Bad At Love and Him & It, the second with his partner. On the 18th, she appeared not only as a protester, but also as a speaker at the Women’s March held in New York, where he read his own quote in a five-minute speech.

The performance (” A Story Like Mine “) follows the life of the singer and her friends and touches on topics that are considered every day in a woman’s life, and yet no one does anything against them. After the rally, an interviewer caught up with the singer and asked what she was saying to the President of the United States, to which Halsey replied, “I hope you watch my f*cking speech.” Benny Blanco‘s debut single Eastside was released on July 12 , featuring Halsey and Khalidsong worked together: the video clip dissects certain stages of the artist’s life, among other things. The song dominated the charts for weeks, went double platinum and became the singer’s third most streamed song.

That same year, she voiced Wonder Woman in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies c. in an animated film, as well as playing himself in the hugely successful film directed by Bradley Cooper, A Star Is Born. As a consultant, he appeared on the fifteenth season of the American version of The Voice. In March, she gave a speech at Blossom Hall organized by the Endometriosis Foundation of America, based on her personal experience, for the benefit of women with this and other fertility diseases, and in November, she read her emotional and moving speech at the Women of the Year Summit organized by Glamor.

Halsey’s first solo single since 2017 was released on October 4, under the title Without Me, under Capitol Records. The song was inspired by her turbulent, toxic relationship with G-Eazy and several friendships where she felt like she was carrying the burden of the two of them alone, and she was the only one fighting to keep things the same. In the music video released on October 29, Colin Tilley directed, many details of the troubled relationship with the rapper are revealed, and in the version presented on SNL on February 9, even more: it is revealed, among other things, that the rapper was abusive towards the singer, cheated on her countless times, demanded money from her, pushed her again cocaine use and acted violently towards him.

The song made history several times and broke records spanning several decades, in addition to this, it rested for two weeks at the top of the Billboard 100 list, and then for 22 subsequent weeks among the top five; was in the top three in the UK, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland rankings; certified triple platinum in the US, single in the UK, five times in Canada and Australia. Due to the track’s BB position, Halsey became the eighth female singer of the decade, who had several number-one songs. For the song, ILLENIUM created a more acoustic, more orchestrated remix, and there was also a collaboration between Halsey and Juice WRLD, who rapped on the recording instead of the Justin Timberlake -inspired bridge.

The massive hit was followed by a couple of months of silence regarding his independent discography. In February, Yungblud ‘s joint song, 11 Minutes, was released, which is a sad love song, the video clip of which shows the five stages of grief in a cinematic way. After that, in April came the huge worldwide success of Bangtan Boys (BTS)  Boy with Luv. on his song. The track is featured on the Korean boy band Map of the Soul: Persona’s middle album. Among other things, the music video broke the record for the highest number of views within 24 hours, and also won the “award” for the fastest to reach 100 million views. On April 19 (3 days before Earth Day), Lil Dicky ‘s charity song Earth was released, on which the singer collaborated with 29 other singers and actors, including Ariana Grande, Sia and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Halsey then released her feminist anthem  Nightmare. This song was also preceded by a creative lyrics search tour that moved the fans, which led to the release of the song and the accompanying video clip on May 17. In this, the singer takes on several roles: we can see her as a housewife, a punk rocker, a dominatrix, a businesswoman and a cover girl. The video, directed by Hannah Lux David, also features Cara Delevingne, Debbie Harry, Ryan Destiny and Suki Waterhouse. Although the song opened in the top 15 on the charts, and although it did not receive much attention from the industry apart from a few televised performances, the singer sang it as the opening song on her tour, despite the fact that she does not take a place on the third Manicon an album named According to Halsey, the album was originally based on this song and it would have been the lead single, but a later statement revealed that when she wrote and recorded the album’s songs, she no longer felt angry – she also spoke about the album this way:

❝ [A Manic] is a sampling of hip-hop, rock, country, fucking everything – because it’s all so manic. He is so very manic. It’s specifically everything I felt I wanted to do – I had no reason not to.

The song was also followed by radio silence, which the singer spent resting and spending countless hours in the studio working tirelessly and non-stop on her third album, which arrived later than the speculations; this must have been due to some misunderstanding or slip. His next hit, Graveyard, was released on September 13, for which he released a music video just one month later, followed by Clementine on his 25th birthday. For the former, a time-lapse of an 8-hour video was first released, in which we can see the artist painting the cover of her album, and later the official music video was also released on October 8, in which the embodiment of her romantic relationships and her fictional replacement Everything Sucks ! and Euphoria actress, Played by Sydney Sweeney.

Later it was revealed that the rapper had repeatedly acted violently against the singer, was unfaithful countless times and cheated her of money.

In November 2018, she started dating the alternative rock musician and singer Yungblud song. They met for the first time in a bar in Los Angeles, and then collaborated on the song “11 Minutes”. At that time, fans began to speculate about a romantic relationship, which was confirmed in March of the following year. In September, the couple parted ways, and then Halsey ended up with Evan Peters In 2020, however, her fans could see her again with Yungblud, and she also liked a post on Twitter that made the breakup with Evan official.

After that, the singer did not openly admit to any relationship, and in January 2021, in the form of an Instagram and Twitter post, she announced that she was expecting her first child with  Alev Aydinby a screenwriter of Turkish origin. In May, also on Twitter, in response to a fan’s question, Halsey said that she and Alev had been in love for the past three years.

After that, there were several rumors in the press that an engagement and even a marriage had taken place between the lovers, but neither Frangipane nor Aydin confirmed these rumors. In March 2021, Halsey changed her personal pronouns to “she/they” (according to which she prefers to be referred to both as a woman and as a member of the neutral gender used in the English language), expanding the camp of openly non-binary performers. The couple’s child, Ender Ridley Aydin, was born on July 14, 2021; the news was first shared on Instagram almost a week after the little one was born. Since then, the lovers have appeared together at several events, including the afterparty of the 94th Oscars,
