He has one brother. He moved to London with his family when he was ten years old. He won a scholarship to University College School, a boys’ school in Hampstead. He later studied drama at the Royal Academy.
David McCallum’s Acting career
In 1947, he voiced a boy on BBC Radio. This is how his career began. In 1951 he was an assistant to the Glyndebourne Opera Company. He began his acting career in British films at the end of the 50s.
He got his first major film roles in 1957 in the films Violent Playground and Robbery Under Arms. The first American film starring Freud was in 1962. This was followed shortly after by Billy Budd. In 1964, he got the role of Illya Kuryakin in the series entitled The Man from UNCLE, with which he achieved enormous success.
David has become a real sex symbol. In addition to the traditional appearance of Robert Vaughn, the other main character, David’s blonde Beatles hairstyle made a huge impression. His character is a mysterious Russian agent, from which David made a complex and interesting character. He was showered with lots of fan mail, everywhere he went, he was asked about his Beatles style and even referred to as the blonde Beatle. The series ran on television for four years and received two Emmy Award nominations (1964-68).

In 1979, he played in the sci-fi series Sapphire & Steel. In 1986, he appeared in the drama The Golden Youth.
In 1994, he was the narrator of the documentaries Titanic: Death of a Dream and Titanic: The Legend Lives On. Since 2003, he has been playing Dr. Donald Mallard, i.e. Doc, in the series NCIS – Naval Crime Scene Investigators. His success is close to his 1964 success in The Man from UNCLE.
From 2006 to 2009, he voiced in the television series The Replacements. And from 2008 to 2010, he heard his voice in Ben 10: Alien Force.
This was followed in 2009 by the series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, in which he appeared for one episode. From 2010 to 2014, he heard his voice in the animated film series Ben10.
In 2014, he was cast in the hit crime drama series NCIS: New Orleans, appearing in one episode as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. Then he got another dubbing role, namely in Son of Batman.

David also excelled in the world of music. He recorded four studio albums for Capitol Records with producer David Axelrod: Music…A Part Of Me (1966), Music…A Bit More Of Me (1966), Music…It’s Happening Now! (1967) and McCallum (1968).
