– Winnie Harlow PRIVATE LIFE –
Chantelle Brown-Young was born on July 27, 1994 in Toronto, Canada, the eldest daughter of Lisa Brown and Windsor Young. He has a younger sister named Christina Harlow. He has Jamaican ancestry. At the age of four, he was diagnosed with vitiligo, a chronic, pigment-deficient skin disease for which there is no cure. As a result of the disease, Winnie’s skin is pigmented in small and large spots.
The disease made him miserable throughout his childhood and youth: his peers teased him and called him sarcastic names (zebra, cow, etc.). Because of the serial abuses at school, mainly of a mental nature, he often changed schools, until he finally left school at the age of sixteen. The constant torture was not good for his mental health: after leaving his studies there, he attempted suicide.
The model is currently in a happy relationship with her rapper lover, Wiz Khalifa. They also appeared together at the after-party of the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, garnering considerable recognition with their appearance.
– Winnie Harlow CAREER –
modeling
Winnie was discovered by no less a person than Tyra Banks herself in the 21st season of the American television show I’ll Be Top Model, where she also competed against men. He was the first-ever Canadian contestant on the show. Unfortunately, he was eliminated from the competition in the second week of the finale, but he continued to participate in the so-called “comeback series”, within the framework of which photo series were made of him as well as of his previously eliminated colleagues in the hope that they will be able to return to the competition. After the photoshoots were completed, it was revealed that she received the highest viewership ratings, so she was able to return to the show. Finally, in episode 1, he was eliminated from the competition in 6th place.
After her elimination, Winnie did not stop working: she was asked to do a photoshoot for the Spanish brand Desigual and became their official brand ambassador. In September 2014, she walked London Fashion Week to promote Ashish’s spring/summer collection. She modeled for magazines such as Dazed and iD, and also worked for showstudio.com. In 2015, she modeled in the spring/summer collection of the Italian brand Diesel, the series was shot by photographer Nick Knight.
She also posed for Spanish and Italian Glamour, and was announced for the columns of the August/September 2015 issue of Complex magazine, as well as the August issue of this year’s Cosmopolitan magazine. The Italian Vogue made an interview and an exclusive series of photos about him on its website. In 2016, Winnie participated in a Sprite campaign and also worked in one of Swarovski’s projects. In the same year, she was included in the BBC’s 100 Women list. In 2018, she had the honor of being able to march in the well-known Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Public speeches of ‘vitiligo’
In July 2011, Winnie shared a video on YouTube titled “Vitiligo: A Skin Condition, Not a Life Changer”. In the video, he talked about vitiligo and answered questions about how this phenomenon affected his life. In November 2014, he also gave a TED presentation on the subject, reminding people of his condition. In October of the following year, she spoke on the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty panel at the 2015 Women in the World Foundation meeting. For his activities, he was awarded the ‘Role Model’ award at the Portuguese GQ Men of The Year event.
He once made a controversial comment about another black model’s hair in a statement, as he joked about her natural hair in a social media post. The comment so shocked and angered her followers that Winnie had to apologize for her indiscretion in a new post.
2018 Canadian Grand Prix
At the 2018 Canadian Grand Prix, Winnie was asked to wave the checkered flag at the end of the races. Due to misinformation from the race judges, Winnie was instructed to wave the flag only on the last lap before the end of the race. In accordance with the Formula 1 sports regulations, the final result was finally determined based on the standing order at the end of the 68th lap, which made the race originally planned for 70 laps two laps shorter. The error did not seriously affect the final result of the race.
other works
Harlow has also appeared in several music videos; this is how we saw it in JMSN’s “The One”, Eminem’s “Guts Over Fear”, The Black Eyed Peas’ music video for #WHERESTHELOVE. She had a cameo role in the music video for Beyonce’s hit song “Lemonade” and appeared in Lilly Singh’s (aka IISuperwomanII) YouTube video “Three Girls, One Elevator”.
