How to prevent insects in Kamad crop during these days?

Sugarcane growers should once again prevent peak borer in time and if not resolved, the farmer may suffer huge losses. Agricultural scientists say that this is a very serious insect. Which causes great damage to the crop. Six generations of this insect grow during the entire crop season and the caterpillar is present only in the old crop. Which lays eggs on the new crop in the form of male and female moths in the month of February. In this condition the worm starts spreading, the female of this worm is capable of laying 100 to 250 eggs.

The insects formed from this make a tunnel in the vein in the middle of the sugarcane and go inside and eat the plant. As a result, the plant gets spoiled. Its identification is that a hole appears on the leaf at the edge of the plant. The second generation begins in the last week of March. The third generation begins in May. Due to this, the crop suffers a lot in June. This time the possibility of first, second, and third-generation attacks is more. Its attack is seen more in Co-0238 and many other varieties. Therefore, prevent it at the beginning itself.

Use the following methods for prevention

  • Catch and kill the male and female by 9 a.m.
  • Prune out affected shoots during April and June.
  • Pluck and destroy the leaves with eggs deposited on them.
  • Mix Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 140 ml in 150 liters of water and spray it per acre. Install pheromone traps in the field.
  • Spray Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 % w/w @60 ml per acre. Release its egg-eating parasite Trichogramma japonicum in the fields in 4 to 5 consecutive tri-cards every 15 days. Do not spray any pesticide in that field.
  • In the last week of June or first week of July (if the attack is more than 5%) per acre, apply 10 kg Furtera 0.4 g R or 12 kg Furadan / Difuran / Furacarb / Carbosil / Fury 3 g capsules (Carbofuran) to the branch. Pour it near the roots and cover the roots with light soil and water the field. In this way the third generation of Aag Gadua will be destroyed. Which causes the most harm. The person who has applied this pesticide in the field must wash his hands thoroughly with soap several times before eating anything.

Kamad horse (Paerilla)

This insect greatly reduces the yield of kamad and the sweetness of sugarcane. This insect appears for the first time in April-May and attacks very seriously in August to September. The leaves of the attacked plant turn yellow. At the next level of the attack, all fires turn black and are no longer capable of being cast on animals. Its attack is more on heavy crops and more damage to the crop occurs in the middle field. Due to this if its attack becomes too much then even jaggery does not get cooked properly. To prevent this, dissolve 600ml Durasban 20EC (Chlorpyrifos) in 400 liters of water and spray it per acre with a hand pump.

Peak Borer

This insect remains active throughout the year. The caterpillars of this insect stay in the new roots during winter. Their attacks reduce somewhat in April, May and June but increase in July. It is most active in October and November. There is no external sign of this insect. The holes that this insect makes inside the stem can be seen only by peeling the sugarcane. A single caterpillar sometimes causes damage to up to three nodes and attacks the sugarcane at many places. In case of a severe attack, the yield and sweetness of sugarcane is affected. To prevent this, follow the following recommendations.

  • Do not take seeds from infested fields.
  • One Tricho card (20,000 parasite eggs per acre) containing Trichoderma chylons meter worm was cut into 40 small equal parts of size 5×0.75 cm and sprayed on one acre under the leaves at 10 days intervals during July to October (10 to 12 times). Put it at 40 places in the field in the evening. Each small part contains about 500 eggs.
  • For prevention, 10 pheromone traps per acre are recommended during the months of July to October along with the first recommended application of Tricocard. Change the pheromone lure every month.
  • Cut off all affected shoots at the time of harvest.
  • Remove the roots of the crop infested with insects and destroy it and plow the field.
