Warner Bros and DC have officially confirmed that there will be a change of actor who will play the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming film. Plans to produce ‘The Batman’ starring Ben Affleck have now been changed – with the story set to revolve around Batman’s youth.
While the actor who will play the role of the latest Caped Crusader is Robert Pattinson. If you don’t know him, Pattinson is an actor in The Rover, Good Time and one of the best horror movies of 2019, ‘The Lighthouse.’ However, he is best known as the vampire man who glows when exposed to sunlight in the teenage film trilogy Twilight.’
Is he a good choice? We don’t know yet. As far as we know, many actors have already been tasked with bringing this iconic character to the silver screen. Who is the best and who is the worst? Here are the five male actors who portrayed the Caped Crusader from worst to best.
5. George Clooney (Batman & Robin)
George Clooney is a reliable actor and director. We do not deny that. Anyway, his choice as Batman? Urgh! Like there’s something deeply flawed, not just about casting him as Bruce Wayne but with the entire Batman & Robin movie.
It is difficult for us to categorize the movie in what genre should it be placed – comedy, action, soap opera, drama? Already the script of the movie is very weak, Clooney is also seen to be less serious in playing his character. Maybe because he himself realized how bad the film’s screenplay was. Criticized by many in terms of acting, George Clooney and Chris O’Donnel who played the role of Robin was also named as the ‘worst couple in the movie’ in 1997. The suits worn also, have nipples. Batman’s suit has nipples!
4. Val Kilmer (Batman Forever)
Having a better storyline than its sequel, Batman Forever still deserves to be called a weak film. There is nothing memorable from this movie because the storyline of this movie is quite flat. Actor Val Kilmer also does not stand out and is less convincing as Bruce Wayne.
For the writer, these two films, namely Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, are two Batman films that fail to identify what actually focuses on the character of Batman that needs to be highlighted. Unfortunately, the film is best remembered for its soundtrack which features two popular songs – ‘Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me’ by the band U2 and the popular video clip of Seal’s ‘Kiss By A Rose’.
3. Ben Affleck (Dawn of Justice, Justice League)
Although we put Ben Affleck at number 3, the quality he displayed in wearing the Batman suit is much higher than Val Kilmer and George Clooney. But among the three best Batman actors, he is the weakest. This is because his character is worked as if he likes violence, talks a lot and is less serious when he is Batman.
Actor Ben Affleck has done the best he can with a relatively weak script, not least when it comes to the very different tone of the character between Batman in Dawn of Justice and a similar character in Justice League. If we compare the two movies, it’s clear that Batman ‘Dawn of Justice’ is cooler and even managed to defeat Superman – but the character will still be remembered forever because of the dialogue scene ‘Martha.’
2. Michael Keaton (Batman, Batman Returns)
Michael Keaton sets a pretty high standard in portraying the character of Batman. Criticized at the beginning as a less suitable choice to carry the character of the millionaire, the critics finally had to admit his selection as a right step. The film that combines two famous actors, Keaton and Jack Nicholson, who is the Joker’s arch-nemesis, succeeds in bringing a new dimension to the character of Batman.
These two films were praised for taking a more serious approach, as well as successfully displaying the psychological effects that always haunt Bruce Wayne as a result of the tragedy that befell him, when he was young. Although there were changes made to the storyline, compared to the comics – these two films became a very important template in starting the superhero genre in the Hollywood film industry.
1. Christian Bale (Dark Knight trilogy)
From the beginning named as Bruce Wayne, the actor Christian Bale did fulfill what was wanted in forming the character. Well crafted by Christopher Nolan in the form of a trilogy, these 3 films ultimately changed the public’s view of more realistic superhero films, helping to introduce Batman to a more modern era.
Although many have created parodies of Batman’s voice used in this film, there are not many flaws in these three films as they all manage to display the character of Batman effectively, aided by equal villains such as Bane, Ras al-Ghul, Talia al-Ghul and certainly the character of the Joker that left an impression on the audience.
Where would Robert Pattinson rank on this list? We wait for 2023. Don’t number six already. Don’t like our list because you’re a Marvel fan?
